The Hard Truth About Social Media: A Six Part Series - An Introduction
Social media is ingrained into our culture. It provides so many positives and allows us to stay up to date with those in our lives we may not otherwise feel connected to. It enhances business, keeps us up on current events, and allows us to feel deep human connections to strangers through their stories.
Journaling thoughts and writing letters has gone by the wayside with new generations and the introduction of social media. We now have the opportunity to share our thoughts, experiences and photos in real time. Think of it as an online journal if you will. With this modern day journal, comes great responsibility. Social media has created a different kind of window to our thoughts and feelings, because they are out there for the world to see. Even if you are a private person, you may connect to someone else’s story and feel less isolated because they put words on how you feel.
Our desire to be connected to others is key for a healthy mind, body and soul. But there are quite a few elements of social media that breed discourse in the human spirit. I think it important to discuss the negatives social media can bring up. Hear me when I say, you can learn to use social media in a healthier way that not only protects your heart and mind, but others’ as well.
